This text-based activity will educate case managers and registered respiratory therapists (RRT) on the current management of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and newer therapies that may impact treatment paradigms and patient outcomes. In addition to text, this activity also includes audio clips featuring faculty commentary and an "ask the expert" feature, which gives learners an opportunity to pose questions to the faculty; responses are posted on the discussion board for all learners to access. This format is conducive to viewing online and on tablets and smartphones.
This activity is intended for case managers and respiratory therapists involved in the management of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare, progressive lung disease that greatly impacts patients’ quality of life and diminishes life expectancy. Newer therapies slow lung function decline. These therapies are used in combination with oxygen supplementation, pulmonary rehabilitation, symptomatic treatment, and supportive care. Case managers and respiratory therapists need education on the new therapies and supportive care to educate and counsel patients with IPF, as well as optimize their care.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Discuss the burden of IPF on patient quality of life over the disease course
• Evaluate the efficacy, tolerability, and safety data for pharmacotherapies for IPF
• Counsel IPF patients and their caregivers on supportive care and pharmacologic approaches
• Assist with comprehensive care plans and appropriate referral to specialists

This activity will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. To receive credit, participants are required to complete the pre-test, view the eNewsletter and complete a post-test and evaluation form. To receive credit, 80% must be achieved on the post-test. A certificate will be immediately available. There is no fee to participate in the activity or for the generation of the certificate.
