Overview
Southern Symposium on Heart Failure
Online registration is no longer available for the Southern Symposium on Heart Failure. You will be able to register in-person onsite the day of the symposium.
This live, one-day symposium will offer updates and detailed insights into heart failure and treatment options. Through focused didactics, panel discussions, and interactive dialogue, participants will gain both broad perspectives and detailed insights on the following topics:
• Impact of recent clinical trials on the treatment of heart failure
• Types of primary cardiomyopathies and methods for diagnosis
• Recent advances in short-term support for treatment of cardiogenic shock
• Co-management of heart failure between EP and the heart failure team
• Advanced therapies for heart failure including transplant and mechanical circulatory support
• Transitioning VAD patients back to the community and their care providers
• Role of palliative care for patients with end-stage heart failure
• Establishing a community-based disease management practice for heart failure
This activity is intended for cardiologists, primary care physicians, advanced practice providers, registered nurses, allied health professionals, and residents/fellows involved in the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure.
The purpose of this CME/CE conference is to educate clinicians on the current management of heart failure and emerging therapies that may impact treatment paradigms and patient outcomes. As more research in the field of heart failure gives rise to the emergence of new treatment options, it is critical that clinicians be up to date on the currently available treatments, emerging treatments, and the safety and effectiveness data.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Discuss Medicare/Medicaid quality improvement programs and measures and their relationship with evidence-based guideline recommendations for heart failure (HF).
• Evaluate current clinical practice guidelines/clinical trials surrounding optimal pharmacological management of HF.
• Compare and contrast legacy practice paradigms surrounding heart failure with emerging evidence-based protocols designed to reduce HF-related complications and re-hospitalizations.
• Evaluate the role of device-based interventions and surgical approaches in the care of heart failure, especially for refractory cases.
• Develop customized, targeted HF treatment strategies that consider a variety of patient populations, disease severity/subclasses, comorbidities, phenotypes, and/or individual treatment responses.
• Discuss socioeconomic, geographic, racial/ethnic, and gender-based variables that may contribute to worse HF outcomes in the context of targeted HF treatment strategies.
