These powerful and captivating real-world patient stories capture how women are approaching decisions regarding contraception during an era in which access to reproductive health care services is changing. These stories highlight the challenges and barriers faced by women along with the myriad of factors that fuel unmet needs relative to contraception in the U.S. today. An expert provides insightful perspectives on these stories and reviews the latest data and guidance on the appropriate use of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) to reduce unintended pregnancy rates. Don’t miss this powerful documentary-style education that helps you improve access to LARCs and better ensure that your patients receive the best possible care.

This activity is intended for OB/GYNs, internists, primary care physicians, and advanced practice providers (NPs & PAs) in both specialty and primary practice.

Despite having the highest rates of effectiveness amongst contraceptives, few women in the U.S. use LARCs, placing them at risk of unintended pregnancies. Myriad of clinician, systemic, and patient factors contribute to low rates of use. Education on the appropriate use of LARCs along with proper insertion techniques has been demonstrated to increase their use and reduce unintended pregnancy rates. Expanding the number of providers with background in LARC use can improve access and use.

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
• Outline barriers that impede access to LARCs
• Review current clinical guidelines regarding the use of IUDs and implants for contraception
• Identify appropriate patients for long-acting reversible contraceptives
• Employ strategies to counsel patients on various forms of contraceptives
