PAtHways to Improved Care- PAH Reflections: COVID-19 and Health Disparities

In this series of short vlogs, you’ll hear leading pulmonologist Dr. Victor Tapson, Director, Pulmonary Vascular Disease Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, discusses how the pandemic has impacted his patients with PAH. Dr. Tapson will review any changes in his approach to diagnosis and treatment and available evidence to reduce risks in PAH. Disparities in care and how these impact patients with PAH will be the focus of one of the vlogs. Because the patient plays such a critical role in shared decision-making, this activity will also include a future patient ambassador sharing their perspectives, experiences, and treatment goals.

Very few studies have assessed the impact of healthcare disparities on PAH, despite the potential adverse impacts. One such study from Talwar et al reported that minority PAH patients may be at risk for worse outcomes due to lack of healthcare access, insurance gaps, and socioeconomic status.
